We went out of town this past weekend and my plans were to rest, relax, and renew. I can’t even tell you how excited I was heading into the weekend. We’ve been so busy the past several weeks that we haven’t had a lot of downtime, so I NEEDED this weekend.
Nick was in training all day Saturday and Sunday, so I used the downtime to rest in the hotel room, enjoy my cup(s) of coffee, spend time with Gabriel, and allow my body and mind to rest. I took naps while Gabriel napped, I watched my guilty pleasure shows, and I enjoyed having a CLEAR schedule, for a change.
It also helped that it was raining most of the days, so I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. And truthfully, I didn’t feel that way anyway!
Nick and I used his free evenings to explore a new city, one neither of us had been to. We let Gabriel walk around and experience a new city, as well. I mean, I’m sure it didn’t mean a thing to him, but still.
We all need the downtime every now and again. We are a society that is on the go non-stop; I know I’m guilty of it. I over-schedule myself and rush from one meeting or event to another, hoping nothing falls apart in the meantime. And most days, everything works as it’s supposed to.
But some days, whew, some days are tough. Some days just don’t go as planned.
So yes, rest days are 100% necessary. Shoot, rest weekends are necessary.
You have to allow your body and your mind to rest and reset, relax and renew. Everything eventually falls apart if you don’t allow it to rest and reset…yes, even you.
Schedule your next rest day. Do it. Put it on your calendar right now. You don’t have to travel out of town, like I did, but you need to allow yourself to slow down and rest.
I promise, you will be better for it.
Have a beautiful week, and I hope you find the time to rest!
