I’m going to let you in on a little secret. It may come as a total surprise, but I’m going to tell you anyway.
Life is not always easy. There will be hard times. Sad times. Mad times. Tough times. And there will be insanely happy times. Giddy times. Excited times.
You will literally go through the whole gamut of experiences in your life. Every. Single. One.
But here’s the fun part. When you get through the hard times, when you achieve something difficult, there is so much glory in surmounting it!
The sense of achievement. The thrill of doing hard things and winning! There really is something to be said for pushing through the hard times and achieving success.
It’s one of the things I love most about CrossFit. Lots of movements are simple and we do them every day, not only in the gym but in our every day lives.
But there are movements that are complex. That require learning and training them. That take time and practice. And there will be failures. There will be misses. But that’s the beauty of it! Because when you make the lift, when you get your first pull up or handstand push up or bar muscle up, the excitement and the achievement is HUGE!
And that hard work, that glory, that sense of accomplishment translates to your every day life. You CAN do hard things. You prove it to yourself in the gym when you keep trying, you keep pushing, and when you achieve it!
You’ve seen the videos. The ones of the first bar muscle ups where the person is over top the bar screaming and kicking their feet in excitement. Shoot. I have one! Or the videos where they’ve hit a weight on a lift they didn’t think they’d hit. Or they kick their toes to the bar for the very first time.
Not only does this help you realize you can do hard things, but it teaches you you can continue trying (and failing, if that happens), but you WILL be okay. The fun part is coming back and trying again!
Take these wins, this confidence, into your every day life. You will go through difficult times. But there is so much glory in surmounting those difficulties.
Be strong. Keep trying. Keep achieving. Keep winning.
You’ve got this.
Have a fantastic week!
