From our sweet Coach Em:
I spent last week with my grandparents, and it was a gift. Time with them is always filled with stories from the past, slow mornings, and the kind of wisdom only years can bring. But as I sat with them, I noticed something else too: the little changes that come with aging. They don’t get out for walks as often anymore, and preparing healthy meals has become harder.
It made me think deeply about the choices we make today and how they shape the years ahead. Longevity isn’t just about living longer—it’s about living well, with strength, energy, and joy in everyday moments. My grandparents’ journey reminded me how important it is to take care of ourselves now, so we can enjoy more of those precious moments later.
Here are a few lessons their example inspired in me:
1. Movement is a Lifelong Gift
Our bodies were designed to move, and even the smallest bit of daily activity helps us feel better. A walk around the block, gentle stretching, or light exercise can do wonders for energy, mobility, and mood.
2. Food as Fuel
Nourishing meals don’t have to be complicated, but they do make a difference. Choosing fresh, colorful foods gives our bodies what they need to stay strong and resilient for years to come.
3. Small Steps Add Up
It’s never about being perfect. Longevity is built from the little things we do consistently—drinking more water, eating a piece of fruit, or making time to move a little each day.
4. Connection is Health, Too
One thing my grandparents have taught me is the power of community. Sharing stories, laughter, and love is just as important for our wellbeing as any workout or meal plan.
My week with them reminded me of the balance we all need to live long and live well. They’ve shown me that health isn’t just physical—it’s also emotional, relational, and spiritual. And while we can’t stop the passage of time, we can make choices that help us show up with more vitality along the way.
So I’ll leave you with this question: What’s one small choice you can make today to support the future version of yourself?
We’ll see you in the gym!
Have a great week!
