Early one morning (think 4am) last week, I woke up thinking about anchors. More specifically, about how boats don’t stay in one place unless they’ve dropped anchor. And I’ve found it’s similar in our every day life.

We are literally being pulled in every direction on a daily basis. With so much noise and pressure, it can feel overwhelming at times. But I’ve come to realize that having an anchor—something that keeps me grounded—is essential. Whether it’s a quiet moment of reflection, the support of loved ones, or a passion that fuels my soul, my anchor has been my lifeline through tough times. And I believe it’s what helps us all stay centered, no matter the challenges we face.

So what exactly is an Anchor in Life?

For me, an anchor in life is that unshakable foundation, something that provides stability when everything else feels uncertain. It could be a belief, a person, or even a dream—anything that offers direction, clarity, and purpose. When everything feels chaotic, it’s the thing that reminds me of who I am and what truly matters.

And I’ve learned that without an anchor, it’s easy to lose yourself in the chaos of life. It’s in those uncertain moments—when the world feels out of control—that our anchors become our compass, helping us stay true to ourselves. For me, this anchor has been my personal values, my relationships with the people I love, fitness, and, even more so recently, my faith. These anchors remind me that even when life feels unpredictable, I can still choose peace and purpose.

Here’s how my anchors play out for me.

Regarding my Personal Beliefs and Values, I believe authenticity is everything. I believe in being true to who I am, even if it’s not the most popular path. When I face difficult decisions, I ask myself: “Does this align with my values?” If the answer is no, then I know I need to make a change.

If you know me, I wasn’t always that way. But it’s something that I learned is super important to me.

When it comes to my Relationships, my family and friends are my greatest anchors. They’ve been with me through the ups and downs, offering love, advice, and comfort when I need it most. I’ve learned that no matter how busy life gets, these relationships are what truly matter—and they remind me to never lose sight of connection.

And, big surprise, I’ve always had a passion for fitness too. It started when I was a kid and has never really stopped. It’s been the one thing I’ve had that helps keep me grounded when it feels like my whole world is falling apart. I can shut everything else out and move my body… push myself beyond my limits… turn my mind off, even for a few minutes. I’ve had some terrible times in my life and the one thing that keeps me grounded, keeps me sane, is fitness. It helps keep my stress levels low, and it helps to motivate me to keep moving forward.

And more recently, I’ve found that Faith has become one of my strongest anchors. It’s a guiding force that has brought me peace in moments of uncertainty. Faith has given me a deeper sense of purpose and reminded me that I’m never truly alone in this journey. Whether it’s trusting that things will work out or simply finding strength in prayer, my faith has become the rock that supports me in ways I never expected.

And I didn’t always know what my anchors were. At first, it felt like I was adrift, searching for something that would give me peace. But as I reflected on what mattered most—what truly made me feel grounded—it became clear. It wasn’t just one thing; it was a combination of values, relationships, fitness, and, now more recently, my faith. And every day, I work to keep these anchors in focus, remembering why they’re important to me.

Having an anchor has been transformative. It’s given me a sense of resilience I didn’t know I had. Whenever life feels overwhelming, I return to my anchors, and it reminds me that I can handle whatever comes my way. I’ve learned that with an anchor, I’m not just surviving—I’m thriving.

We all need something to keep us grounded in life. Whatever yours may be, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on it. What is the thing(s) that keeps you centered when life gets chaotic? Hold onto that, because it’s the key to finding peace and purpose amidst the noise.

Have a great week! And I hope you find your anchor(s).

We’ll see you in the gym!
