Sometimes I put my foot in my mouth. Inadvertently. Without thinking. You know those moments when the words come out faster than your brain does? Yep. That’s me.
It’s not that I mean to say the wrong thing — it just sort of happens. And the second it does, I wish I could grab the words right out of the air and stuff them back in. But life doesn’t come with a backspace button, does it?
I’ve learned to be thankful for the people who love me enough to call me out. Not in a harsh or condemning way, but in a gentle, “Hey, maybe think about that a little differently” kind of way. Those are the friends who don’t just hear what you say — they see your heart behind it. And they remind you that we’re all works in progress.
Proverbs 27:6 says, “Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.” I love that verse because it reminds me that correction, when done in love, is actually a form of care. It’s easy to surround ourselves with people who tell us what we want to hear, but the real growth comes from the ones who help us see what we need to hear.
God has a funny way of using these moments — even the awkward, cringe-worthy ones — to teach humility and patience. He doesn’t expect perfection; He just asks for a willing heart. So when I stumble over my words (or insert my foot where it doesn’t belong), I try to laugh, learn, and listen a little better next time.
Because grace isn’t just what we receive from God — it’s what we learn to extend to others and ourselves.
This year especially, I’ve seen how much God can do with a heart that’s open to correction and change. The same moments that used to make me feel embarrassed now make me feel grateful — because they’re reminders that He’s still working in me. Every time I fall short, He meets me with mercy. Every time I speak before I think, He gives me the chance to make it right.
And honestly, that’s what I love about our community — we’re all learning, growing, and refining together. Whether it’s in faith, fitness, or just everyday life, we mess up, we learn, and we move forward — stronger, lighter, and a little more full of grace than before.
We’ll see you in the gym!
Have a great week!
